Emilia Galan practises civil litigation. Prior to joining Chernos Flaherty Svonkin LLP, Emilia served as a law clerk to a number of judges at the Divisional Court and Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, where she gained experience in a range of civil and commercial matters including those involving shareholder disputes, bankruptcy and insolvency, securities issues, competition, class action claims, issues of contractual interpretation, and professional negligence.
Emilia holds both a JD and a Masters of Economics degree from Queen’s University. Before that, she earned an undergraduate degree in Applied Economics (Hons.) from the same institution.
Throughout her studies at Queen’s, Emilia was a research assistant for professors in the Faculty of Law and School of Policy studies, and engaged in projects relating to international commercial arbitration and jurisdictional labour disputes. She has written a number of research papers and provided legal and economics consultancy services for the Department of National Defence. Emilia’s legal education was broadened by completing the International Business Law Program at the Bader International Study Centre in the United Kingdom, where she gained knowledge of international law with a focus on international competition, investment, and trade regimes.
